Of the 81 Heisman Trophies that have been awarded, no other school has had more individual players receive the award than the University of Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish have had seven players take home the hardware, awarded annually by the Downtown Athletic Club to the Nation’s premier college football player.
This painted football commemorates this distinction, bringing together the seven Notre Dame football players that have received the award. The Baden Sports football is half cowhide, half white-paneled, with one white panel featuring the Notre Dame logo next to an image of the Heisman Trophy. “HEISMAN WINNERS” is printed in gold lettering beneath these two images. On the second white panel, the names and years for each of the seven Heisman winners is printed. The players listed are Angelo Bertelli (1943), John Lujack (1947), Leon Hart (1949), John Lattner (1953), Paul Hornung (1956), John Huarte (1964) and Tim Brown (1987). Above each name is the player’s autograph, each signed in black marker. Printed in the bottom center of the panel is “Special Edition #33 of 5000”, with the #33 alone being handwritten in black marker.
